A special order is a custom-designed diamond through the Blue Nile website. Our experts work hard behind the scenes to design Blue Nile custom engagement rings or other diamond jewelry that meets your vision.
How to Request a Blue Nile Custom Order
Requesting a Blue Nile custom order is simple and fast. Here’s how it works:
1. Speak with a diamond expert. Call 1-800-242-2728 to discuss your custom order.
2. Choose a diamond. Our team can guide you through our timeless diamonds to help you create a one-of-a-kind Blue Nile custom ring.
3. Customize your diamond. After choosing your diamond, it’s time to select characteristics that truly make it yours. You can tailor your diamond by carat weight, clarity, color, cut, and more.
4. Submit your design. You must pay in full to finalize your design.
5. Wait for approval. Our team reviews designs and approves eligible diamonds on a case-by-case basis.
6. Receive a quote. Approved and paid-for designs have a two-week quote. If you wait longer than two weeks, pricing may change.
7. Secure your special order. After purchasing your custom design, most orders take approximately 8-12 weeks to complete.

There are a few features you need to know before you make a special order with Blue Nile, including the following.
• You have two weeks to secure your special order quote. Outside of two weeks, pricing may change.
• Most approved custom designs have an eight-to 12-week timeframe.
• Special order items only apply to Blue Nile-purchased diamonds.
Customer satisfaction is our goal. However, Blue Nile reserves the right to decline custom designs.
Production Timeline for Special Orders
While production can take anywhere from eight to 12 weeks on average, production timelines for special orders vary by design complexity, number of revisions, stone craftsmanship, and production type.
Available Computer-Aided Design (CAD) services include a non-refundable fee and two complimentary revisions. Once we approve your custom design and collect the payment, we cannot accept cancellations and changes.
Special Order Return Policy
At Blue Nile, we take pride in our expert craftsmanship and dedication to meeting your stated specifications. As such, all special-order sales are final—ineligible for returns or refunds.
